It's time for me to seriously start collecting parts for my long rod 225 motor and some questions popped up in my mind.
  • 1.) What bearings (main, cam, rod) do I need to buy? Do I still use stock 225 rod bearings even if I'm using 198 rods? Or are they the same?

2.) Is there any good place to pick up a bearing kit? Are all bearing brands created equal? Or is there a company out there that any one swears by?

3.) The person I bought my short block from said that there was a clifford cam in it already, but when I pulled it out there were no markings on it that would tell me if it was or wasn't. Does clifford cast any numbers or anything in their cams?
Well I think that is all for now. Next week I'm taking my block in to get hot tanked and checked out so I hope everything goes ok. Thanks for any help.

Brett

1) The bearings are the same for all forged crank SL6 engines. I have never noticed much difference in the brands but like to use TRW. Be sure to get some cam bearings also.

2) Shop around for a rebuild kit, PAW has some good prices on kits but also check with some of you local discount auto supply stores.

3) The cam numbers will be on the back "face" of the rear cam journal. All the Clifford cams I have had over the years had their name back there.
