The Dart's been making some weird noise for a while that I was sure was an exhaust leak (sounds EXACTLY like one), but tonight I noticed that it only happens while in gear. No sound at all in park or neutral, and when driving, it only happens above (what sounds like; no tach in this one) 1200 RPM. It never goes away or changes at all with engine temp. Never any louder or quieter, always annoyingly loud. I've changed the tranny fluid and that made a difference in shifting (much better now) but no difference in the noise. Any idea where in the driveline, or what, it might be? I hope to God the tranny doesn't need a rebuild... :(

It's a 225 w/ an A904 tranny

Here is my "smarta$$" answer to all funny noise questions:

"Wait until something breaks, then you will know exactly what is making the noise..."

Seriously, basic troubleshooting and process of elimination is what you need to use to track down the noise.
Pulling fan belts, dropping out the drive shaft, jacking-up the car and spinning each wheel are all ways to narrow your possibilities.

Sometimes I "give-up" and wait for something to break...
