I have a 1984 D250 3/4 ton pickup and need a new carb. I'd like to upgrade to a 2-bbl, or anything with better performance than the tiny 1-bbl I have now. What do most folks use with the stock truck manifold? Anybody use Webers out there? I have heard nothing but bad things about the Holleys.

The easy thing to do is swap intake manifolds over to the factory Super Six set-up.

OK, but what exactly is the "super six" setup? I've searched the archives of this board, and I can't find anything telling me what it is. Also, I would prefer not to have to buy a new manifold (yes, I have checked the local junkyards, there are NO slant six vehicles to be found that haven't already been stripped clean). Could you give me the model number of a higher-flow carb that will bolt driectly onto the truck manifold?

i put a holley 5200 on mine (the holley copy of a weber 32 36). used an adapter from proline and bolted it to my 1 bbl intake. made world of performance difference and got a 35% increase in mpg

Wow!! That is a very significant MPG increase over the stock carb.
How much is the 5200 if you don't mind me asking?
I'm currently wrestling with bad mpg on my 87 van and 85 pickup.
They both average about 10 mpg in the city. If the carb is reasonably priced, now with the increasing gas prices, that carb would probably pay for itself quickly.
Do you have a model # for the proline adaptor by any chance?

the carbs off a vega or pinto. i got mine new off ebay for 120 the adapter was 50 . i think out of a pickem u can probably get the carb for 25 0r 30 bucks. i don't know what size the jets are but proline recommended 50 and 180. i'm satisfied the way this ones jetted. if it starts running bad i'll check jets but as long as it's doing good i'm not gonna mess with it.
took about half an hour for the swap. had to add a piece of flat stock to the kickdown and a little L angle to the linkage and that was it. my engine is a pretty much stock 225 it had a 1920 holley on it that got 13 mpg hwy
now it gets 19
