So, I found an air cleaner for my Holley 2280 off a car with a lean burn system. I removed the computer and I will be covering the gaping holes in the side, but I'm unsure about a few connections....

The elbow coming from near the carb mount: can/should this just be removed or capped off? I'd like to remove it because it makes it impossible to mount the air cleaner any other way but with the snorkel pointing right toward the front of the car. And the air cleaner vacuum line: which one of those two little buggers by the carb mount does it connect to? Does the other one need to be capped? Does that part ever need to be replaced? I tried blowing and sucking air through it and got nothing. I see that it's removable.

Thanks.

Okay, I think I found some of my answers here. I'll be removing and capping off that elbow. And for the two little vacuum nipples, it looks like I'll be connecting the one closest to that elbow to the little port on top of the snorkel, and the other to air cleaner vacuum port on my carb.

I still wonder if the little pod can go bad though. Anyone?

Elbow on the underside: Cap or remove. It was for the pulse-air (aspirator) type of secondary air injection.

Hose from thermostatic air cleaner nipple on carburetor to one of the two small fittings on the underside of the air cleaner. Hose from other small fitting to the air cleaner snorkel actuator. The thermo sensor that has the two small fittings on it is removable and replaceable if you find, once it's hooked up, that it doesn't work.

Large elbow on underside of snorkel: to sheetmetal "stove" surrounding central collector of exhaust manifold via flex duct meant for the purpose.

"Thermo sensor" - gotcha. Um... how do I know if it's working properly once it's hooked up? :?

Start the car from cold. See if the snorkel door rises to the up/heat position. Drive the car til the engine's well and truly hot. Check (with engine still running) if the snorkel door has lowered to the down/cold position.
