I never checked if the differential is centered.

The 2 closest junkyards that have LBP shafts for a 7-1/4" rear (per car-part.com). Each have only one, a peice.

Some junkyards note left and right.

These 2 yards didn't.

(I'm getting ready to bite bullet and convert to LBP to increase brake options. I was trying to hold out for a KH setup, but it's been almost a year and a half since I started looking...)

Is there any good reason not to just redrill the SBP axle flanges? (stock 225 w/A904, abolutely no performance mods planned ever, so I'm not worried about strength.) Is balancing a problem (again, never going to break 75 MPH, ever).

I'd have a machine shop do it, btw.

You must switch over the complete lbp rear assem. Lbp axles will not fit a sbp housing.

That sounds like a good arguement for just redrilling the flange.

just read on another thread that it can't be redrilled because of access hole to bearing retainer.

oh well.

What are the shortcomings to lbp front, sbp rear (other than that tire rotation gets pricey and time consuming).

You lose truck space because you have to carry 2 spares..

If it's not a race car putting down loads of power, I would vote for the billet aluminum bolt pattern adapters. You can get them 1" thick or maybe even narrower. You'll just have to check how much space you have in the wheel well.

That being said, there is a chance of adding some wheel imbalance due to losing your hub centering. You would now be centering on two separate sets of lugs per side. Might be a good excuse to try a very cheap and reportedly effective dynamic balancing system.

I would also avoid the cheaper cast aluminum adapters.
