My 225 block came back from my machinist with new cam bearings installed, and no freeze plug put back in place. :evil: Not very impressed: he also got rid of my deck pins when he sent the block out to be decked (why aren't you doing this yourself???) and didn't bother to put them back, though I kinda knew that might happen but I was hoping for better. Couldn't get them out for the life of me.

I've already put the block back on the stand to reassemble, but now I wonder: do I need to take the block off now to put a plug back in? This is just a simple freeze plug correct? Anything special about it's size or alignment that would prevent me from putting this in, once I've got other parts back in the block?

I don't think it would matter if you put it in later.

It doesn't, I did this once to check the seating depth of the camshaft for mocking up a roller cam test blank. It can be installed afterwards without mishap.

That's what I did also. Doesn't matter a bit.

Just be sure to make a note to install the plug, once the engine comes off the stand. (tag the engine or something you won't miss...)

This is something you don't want to 'forget about', as you get occupied with all the other details around doing the engine installation.

The only thing worse is missing one of the two oil galley plugs... :shock:

For sure! I taped mine right to the block with yellow tape! I am kind of dumb sometimes, so yellow was a good color for remembering!! :lol:

What size plug is it? My block is in engine stand, so I can't measure it.

It's Dorman part number 555-065. Here's a link to the same expansion plug on Summit Racing.
