Is sealer necessary? Using a Corteco head gasket. Could be wrong, but from examination don't think it has any self-adhesive. It feels almost tacky on handling - maybe it doesn't need any? FSM states to use some: doesn't say one side or the other. Have read from others they use none. This gasket is sealing a milled head and decked 225, so they're surfaced, true and ready.

No modern head gaskets I know need (or should have) sealer.

Post subject:  Composite head gasket...

Nothing aftermarket is a shim style/OEM gasket. Felpro,Victor,Corteco are basically install and torque, no prep needed other than a clean mating surface.

Doc uses copper sealant on the spark plug lip side of the head (i believe).

Actually... I use a little high temp RTV along the outer lifter Gallery edge, just to prevent any oil "weeping" at that joint.

Both sides? All of the high-mileage slants I have owned weep right there, but the last one I rebuilt (with no sealer and a fel-pro gasket) never seeped in 50,000 miles of driving.
