So I've searched around for others with this problem, but I can't find anything.

The duster starts up great, but after about 5-10 seconds it starts idling really rough, so rough that it starts jumping around and shaking the car. If I give it any amount of gas, it sounds really bad, almost as if there is air trapped somewhere causing a shuddering coughing noise. If I leave it be for 10-15 minutes and it warms up, it idles great.

This problem isn't a huge deal, but it can't be normal to be so rough while warming up. I just put in a pertronix ignition conversion and a new coil, recently rebuilt the carb and everything is adjusted, I just can't figure out the issue here. I'm also noticing a little bit higher fuel consumption. Around 15-18 MPG :(

Any ideas?

Edit:
Also, what the heck is this thing (the green and white disk):

It is connecting the distributor vacuum line to the carb, what purpose does it serve?

The green and white disc is a check valve. I would remove it from the line.

The rough running when cold sounds like the choke is not adjusted correctly. My guess would be that it is being opened too far too fast. Verify that vacuum choke pull off is adjusted properly.

I've removed the disc and replaced it with a straight through connector but no improvement in the running. I'll try to adjust the choke and post back here.

Thanks for the reply

Vote # 2 on a choke adjustment problem or a blown "pull-off" pod.
Test by manually opening the choke flap while it's running rough, to see if that cleans-up the idle quality.
See this article for more info.:

That "disc" is either a check valve or a delay valve. Look for the vacuum hose routing diagram in the engine compartment; it will tell you. It needs to be left in place and properly oriented. Do you have the FSM for the car? If not, get one. www.moparmanuals.com and www.autobooksbishko.com should have them in print and/or CD. The" Emissions" chapter will explain how the system works.
