I have a 225 in a 71 Scamp.I rebuilt the motor and decided to go to a 2 barrel.put everything together and bought a C614 carter carb.It will start no problem but when it runs for a little it will start to run rough as hell.If you try to turn the fast idle up it revs right up.When you try to turn it down it almost quits. If it is idling at a good speed and you put it in gear with foot on brake it runs like something with the biggest cam you can get, really rough. The rebuild was just to clean everything up and is still stock. My fuel pump has a hose that used to run to to upper bowl of my one barrel as a vent.I just pluged it off.I don't think this has anything to do with my problem. My vacuum it at 15.Need your help. Thanks David

Idle mixture adjusted properly? Choek adjusted properly? Metering rods adjusted properly? Vacuum leak somewhere (15 inches is lower than I would expect on a stock motor)? What RPM are you considering a "good speed?

Can you post a pictue of this hose that runs from the fuel pump to the float bowl on the carb?

Also, when was the last time you adjusted the valves?

Even a small vacuum leak will do exactly what you are talking about.

The guy who did the motor said he adjusted the valves but I am going to check them tomorrow.Mixture screws are good and I have checked and sprayed brake clean all around the cab and intake and there is no difference.I never checked metering rods as the carb is new.Could the fuel bowl not be set right?I what to idle motor between 750 and 800.If I run motor at 1000 rpm it runs with a little miss but stays running,if I turn idle screw down it wants to stumble and quit.

If you have a vac. leak you can't find, check your power brake booster if you got them. I got rid of my power brakes on my 74 Duster, which I wish I still had.
