Getting ready to do canister rebuild.
Since it's all sealed I will have to cut it open.
Anyone know what type of material their made of and what type of epoxy to use to put it back together?

Hay I think I got one of those mounted on my passenger finder but I dont have it hooked up. I dont know what you could use to fix it. Just make sure it resist the gas.

I thinks it's called DEVCON for plastic IIRC. That is the one I would look into. They also make epoxy for metal. Beyond that, the only other epoxy I would trust would be MARINE TEX epoxy, it holds up well to fuel.
Also, depending on the type of plastic, there is such a thing as plastic welding. {body shops use it for repairing bumper covers}.

So instead of using epoxy I decided to drill a 2 1/2" hole in the bottom of the canister to replace the charcoal.
Once I got thru the outer layer I had a plastic grate underneath similar to the grate in the first photo in this canister rebuild http://transamcountry.com/community/ind ... ic=62258.0
Only my plastic grate had a tube in the center that ran all the way to the top to the breather port.
So i drilled thru the grate too.
After dumping out the old charcoal I cleaned out what was left of any foam filter material from the steel grates that were inside.
My steel grates were the same as in this canister rebuild except my larger grate was 2 piece http://jeep.smallcraft.net/resources/Ho ... G_0416.jpg
The charcoal I used was also much larger then the holes in the steel grates so I did not use filter material, I will run a clear fuel filter inline from purge port to be on the safe side.
Next I drilled to holes across from each other in the plug that was drilled out and corresponding holes in the bottom of the canister.
Then i used 2 zip ties to go thru the hole's in the bottom of the canister, back up thru the plastic grate and thru the plug to put it all back together.
Then seal the the holes around the plug and zip ties with gasket sealer.
This is the finished product
It may not be pretty but it works.

These bottles of charcoal are 28oz my canister took about 32oz.
All that's left is to reinstall it.
