I'm am installing a long tailshaft a-833 4 spd in my 64 dart. I'll need to fabricate a bracket to help properly locate the shifter in the stock a-body location. Can someone provide the measurement illustrated below? I want to get the shifter located properly so that stock 4spd carpeting will fit correctly. -thanks

Thnaks Doc. I have read the article but there isn't any information about the specific location of the shifter. My car was originally a column shift so I will be fabricating the floor hump. Without an a-body tail shaft or floor with original manual shifter hump, I have no reference to locate the shifter properly. I re-read the article and it doesn't seem to have this measurment. I'm hoping someone has one of the short tail trannys sitting around where they can easily measure this for me. -thanks, -shane

Idiot Jr. went down for some Z's....

Your critical dimension shown in your pic is 7 3/4".

The closest pad (to give the proper side to side mounting) on the truck tailshaft is 2 - 2 1/2" so mounting a piece of 3/8"-1/2" plate should put you on target (oddly, that's how they did it in the trucks...)

Good luck on the conversion. Dave might chime in later and have more details on the 'how to' for this conversion.

DI, perfect , thanks!

Off to strip the interior out of my dart for its pending floor surgery. I currently have an a-833OD bolted in for fitting purposes (no clutch parts in it yet as I expect to pull and refit it a couple of times). Trany mount isnt in, just resting the tail mounting pad on the crossmember. Once I make room in the floor, everything should center and bolt up. thanks again, -shane
