Hey everyone. Think this is my 1st post so forgive me I'm 18 an dont know alot . My daily driver is a 85 Dodge d100 with a 225 slant 6. About 2 months ago i swapped to a super six setup, 2bbl carb an intake. I had a carter bbd on for awhile however ran rough so i bought a new carb, (believe its a knock off carter) but the trucks never ran better however since the swap to the New 2bbl since the 1st start the truck smokes. A puff at start then non wait a minute then a constant haze comes from the exhaust an gets worse if throttle is given. Just replaced the pcv. Any ideas??? Please help as it is my daily driver an has been for over a year. Thanks an all is appricated.

Get a compression tester and do a compression test.
Ideally the motor will be warm,
Remove all six spark plugs.
Install the compression test apparatus, press
The throttle wide open and cycle the motor five or so spins.
Repeat for each cylinder and post the results.
That will get you a baseline on one of the key
engine variables.

Concerning the carb, you may have been better off
Rebuilding the OE BBD.
With the new carb there is no guarantee that the float
height, mixture settings or the choke setting is correct.
You should get a BBD manual and go through the new
carb and verifying the set up for the three items listed
above.

If the puff of smoke is bluish,probably rings,
the compression test will verify that.
If the puff of smoke is blackish, probably the carb
set up, again, check float height, mixture, choke.

Ok so today i got to compression test the motor Cylinder 6,5,4 were all dead 120 cylinder 3 was 115 an 2,1 were both 113. I assume now piston rings are not an issue. I changed the plug gaps to .039 instead of previously being .033 smoke is less however constant blueish haze from exhaust is still a issue as well as more smoke if throttle is given. Any ideas now??

Yeah, those sound like decent compression numbers for an old motor. Valve stem seals are a good bet. Pull your valve cover and see what's left inside your valve springs. My guess is a bunch of broken pieces of hardened rubber.

Click the following link and scroll down to the first post by SlantSixDan. If your rocker assembly isn't crudded up and you still get a decent amount of oil dripping/spraying off the rocker arm tips when running, you can probably skip the part about sending the shaft and arms out to be cleaned.

I've never actually used the "rope trick," but plenty of folks on this forum have. I'd suggest tying a big knot in the end of the rope to guarantee it doesn't fall down your spark plug hole.
