Make sure to pop dist cap off and see if the distributor is OK. The nylon drive gear might have sheared, or other things could have come apart. Nylon gear is common failure. You could just check for spark first, also. Could have broken timing chain or skipped it, and that would show up when you crank and look at valves opening and closing and/or a compression test. Good luck!

Still got spark distributor seems fine timing mark looks off guessing timing chain jumped

Tried adding pic says it's to big
PM it to u
never mind it wouldn't let me send that way either it about 1/4 turn past where it should be gotta make a tool to pull damper pully off so I'll let ya know what I find after I get off work Monday

best i could do is the imgur link there that is where the timing light goes off when it should have been at 0 for first cylinder

Either of the Things that dart270 says are viable.

Good to replace both while you are figuring things out.

If it keeps Shearing plastic gears. It is possible that the Drive Gear on the Cam is starting to go bad.

No real way to know unless you put a borescope in the distributor hole and See what's going on or pull the cam/Oil Pump for inspection.

New Gears available from forum Member badvert Here

You can see the drive gear on the cam through the dist hole, but may need a small mirror and a light to see it while the engine is in the truck (tough angle to view).

idk if I would say it was the engines fault for the one from the parts truck lol just cause there no telling how long it had been in there/out there i did have some hair line cracks I could see before but ill order some of those and keep them on hand and ill look better tomorrow at the distributor hole/cam shaft gear

Does the OP know that the hole that accepts the retaining pin in the distributor gear needs to be re drilled when installing a new distributor gear. If that is not being done excessive end play at the distributor gear will result. The excessive end play can cause broken distributor drive gears.

Sounds like my old 79 d100 did to me around 1990. After replacing 3-4 distributor gears the engine happened to be at a spot in it's rotation where I could see the missing tooth on the cam. Got another motor for something like $100 and stuck that in there, that motor was an oil burner/mosquito fogger, I wish I'd have just replaced the cam in the original engine. After discovering that I had bought a mosquito fogger, I converted that truck to a V8. Lots more extra bits to find and replace than I thought there would have been. I didn't know near as much about the /6 back then, not that I know a lot about them now.

Oregon cams will grind you whatever you want and they usually have blanks.

Ok finally got all the old stuff off question any reason y this cam got ate up? Kinda feel like it's my fault driving it to hard but figured before throwing it back together id ask oil pump got a little damage ( but never lost oil pressure 40ish when hot) it just the cam gear is what got eat up

Not sure if it's called cam gear but I'm talking about the part that runs oil pump and distributor

If the oil pump gear is damaged, it will damage the new camshaft. It should be replaced also.
