I have a 73 dart slant six and looking to add some performance. I picked up a 2 barrel intake manifold and am trying to decide on carb options. I have a knock off Carter 2 barrel and also a factory 2 barrel from a 318 e body. What is the best option? I was also considering buying a aftermarket Holley street avenger 350 cfm but they are kinda pricey. Lastly, what's the best options for linkage conversion. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank

Of those choices that you presented id go with the 318 carb.

Maybe more important than "what carb" is how you hook up your transmission pressure linkage. I don't know the proper term because I am 95% manual transmission focused... BUT that linkage or connection needs to be set up correctly!(lockar might have a 'shift down' cable, that is adjustable.. OE was some sort of threaded rod connection and it does not have the adjustment you need.) Or you will smoke your transmission in very short order..

I have read some praise heaped upon the Autolite/motorcraft 2 bbl carb. I believe it is due to the ability to fine tune it and make adjustments... but I do not know. IF I was exploring a 'performance' 2bbl I would investigate that as well. To do so would require more work, as the bolt patter is slightly larger than what is on the manifold you have, so fabrication would be needed!

For now the BBD 2 bbl is probably the best and easiest path... and when you decide you want more 'go' the autolite design might be worthy of looking at.

I do not tend to like the Holley stuff, because every 2-3 years I have to fuss with a 4bbl due to it leaking fuel... Probably not relevant for a 2bbl, but I have a confirmation bias now that suggests they never should have sold such a thing to the public, unless it was a 'racing' carb, and it sure as heck is no racing carb!
