What is the correct method? The chrome trim seems to be in the way, but it screws in under the seal. If I start at the bottom, I can't get the window past the trim. If I start at the top, I can clear the trim on the sides, but the silicone was getting too dry by the time I got this far.

The chrome strips are removed from the clips that screw down onto the body.
You need to carefully work a thin / long screw driver in between the clip and the chrome strip to release it.

If you can go to the wrecking yard and find a car with the glass out or to "practice on", that will show you how the trim is removed.

Okay Doc, I think I understand now. I can take the trim off, but the clips will still be on the car. Thanks for your help. You know, I kept thinking... this would be pretty easy if the trim were off the car!!! I'm just glad I didn't break the glass trying to figure it out.

So, do you recommend I fit the bottom of the window in first?

Well, I got the window in. It was a PITA to get the trim off, but the window actually went in very easily. I put the bottom of the window in first and used the string to pull the seal over the window. I lubricated the seal with soapy water so the string could slide on the seal easily. Now I plan to lift the seal just enough to run a bead of silicone between the window and the seal. Then put the trim back on. Thanks for the help.
