I recently bought a 1965 Dodge A100 - my 1st vehicle ever. The engine turns over fine and has plenty of power. I parked it for about 3 months, turning it over every 3 weeks and idling it. Now when I drive it's producing a lot of white smoke. I know that's usually caused by burning oil

I've got 3 questions:
What are the most probable causes/solutions?
Are there other causes for white smoke?
Can gas go stale in 3 months?

I'm new to this so any info is helpful. Thanks!

Are you sure it's white smoke and not blue? White smoke is an indicator of water in the combustion chamber and blue smoke is burning oil. Water can get in the cylinder by a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Does the car smoke badly on start up and then clear up or is it all the time? Smoke on start up is probably valve guide seals. If the car has sat for a long period of time, your piston rings may be gummed up alowing oil to blowby them. Gasoline normally takes quite a while to go bad but it depends on how long the fuel was in the car before you got it. If you put the fuel in recently, I'd say it's fine.

* check the level in your radiator.

* Also check your oil, if there's a whitish swirl to it: water mixed with oil. ( You can also check that by holding a burning match under the oil on the dipstick, if you hear a crunchy sound --> waterrrrrr

* Otherwise, think of this, there's always steam mixed in the exhaust gasses, therefor if you always drive short bits, this steam (water) will not evaporate by the heat in the exhaust system and sort of stays there . This makes exh. systems rust out, but also makes your exhaust puff white smoke a bit.

* Or maybe some water entered the gastank?
