I'll be picking up a slant6 car soon,,,, as soon as I find something nice enough for a daily driver.

But I was wondering,, what year did the slant change from 170, to 198, to 225 cu in..
Engine size could influence my decision of what car to buy.. I'd like to have the 225 cu in.

The 225 was available straight through from 1960 to 1985(?) or whenever they stopped making them. The 170 ran from 1960-69, the 198 from 1970-74.
170 engines use a shorter block; easy ID = look at the bypass hose between the water pump and head - if the hose is so short the clamps are right next to each other, it's a 170, if there's an inch between the clamps it's a 198 or 225.
Positive ID; look for the displacement stamped on the deck surface right below #1 spark plug.
Some cars (70's-up) had emissions stickers on the fender that give the displacement, but the chance of previous engine swaps makes them unreliable.
