Can a slant with a stock cam handle a holley 390 or does it put to much gas in the cylinders

I don't know from personal experience but I would think, since the 390 has vacuum secondaries, that it would work on a stock 225. Can you use all of that CFM - I doubt it.

A 390 vacuum secondary carb can be adjusted to work on a stock SL6 but it is not going to work well right out of the box.
Usually they need more accelerator pump shot and a high rated power valve.
