working on a 64 Dart Gt with a 225 the distributor has 2 adjustments one on the block that is tight and one seen from below that lets the body of the dist move. is this normal? is the vacuum supposed to move this or should it be tight? This is the first slant I,ve worked on, we added a 390 Holley on a Clifford intake and headers to a dual 2" to 2 1/4 out the back
would appreciate any help you all could give

Thanks in advance

Both need to be tight!

The vacuum advance does its work internally and no external movent is seen.

Sounds like a nice package! :D

I hope to get there one day...

Thanks, how do you determine where the bottom bolt is set at, and how do you tighten the bolt down in the car

Thanks Mike

I don't know if theres room to reach under there and get to it without pulling the distributor. I'm pretty sure its a 7/16" bolt. You set it to your liking. If you wan't more timing advance and the distributor is turned as far as it can, thats when you loosen the bottom bolt and turn the bracket so you can turn the distributor more to get more or less advance. Theres no set spot for it.

Thanks for the response, I just made my own wrench, modified 7/16 wrench and a long extension welded together works great

Thanks Again Mike

Thank you for your reply. I have a '63 Dart GT and have not been able to get the timing to the 2.5 degree BTDC point, and the distributor was turned all the way but still at about 10 BTDC. I couldnt figure out how to get it to turn more, and tried loosening the dist and pulling up the rotor to have is skip a tooth on the bottom of the dist driveshaft. Not such a good idea! Thank you for the info.
