How are we defining "awesome" here? What exactly do you want to accomplish?

IMO nothing looks nicer than a stock, gloss black air cleaner with the super six decal on top.

These engines with all the chrome and blue and red fittings just look like cheap aftermarket decorations.

I think you'll find that slanters tend to be a more down-to-earth when it comes to modifications as opposed to most typical "hot-rodders". There's been some discussion on this forum regarding reusable air filters (do a search), much of which was negative.

Like a lot of slanters, I went with the stock air cleaner because of function, and made sure the flapper valve for manifold heat works, because I want the engine up to operating temps as quickly as possible for best mileage. I also hooked up a fresh air duct for a denser charge after warm up for best power. Open element air cleaners, while sexy, aren't the most efficient.

This flies in the face of most hot rodding, whereby the first thing the typical owner will do is slap on an aftermarket chrome air cleaner. Lots of slanters still run open element air cleaners, but fewer, I think, than typical car guys.

I wouldn't go with a Pro-Flo, a.k.a. No-Flow on anything. You can run any 4 barrel air cleaner on your 2 barrel, as long as you have an adapter. Most parts stores should carry them. I ran a 2 barrel on my 70 Nova for a while, and used an Edelbrock air cleaner. I had a 2 to 4 barrel adapter on it. That's all you need, and you can run any air cleaner.

I posted these pics a while back when this topic came up then. I cut the center out of the stock super six base (there's almost a natural seam to follow) then ground it smooth and used a factory early bell with the corresponding filter. I like the look and proportions of these units; you don't need to bore holes in the top for an open element effect but I did and I think it's slick.
Dan, I still haven't forgotten but I also haven't stumbled on another super six assembly.

I had a beautiful 11" K&N air cleaner on my Valiant when it left for texas... Since then my dad replaced it with a huge, generic 14" one. The 11" one scaled so beautifully with the rest of the engine... It looked similar to where people have dual 1bbl's and thus have 2 air cleaners, cept it was only one.
