Has anyone ever rebuilt a Carter BBS? I rebuilt mine and it went OK BUT ...
I can't figure out how many turns the low speed jet screw comes out (if any). I didn't count when I took it out. I've got it at 1 1/2 turns right now. The link below shows the exploded view. The screw I'm talking about is #40 in the picture. Also, how do you set the choke on these things? When I pump the gas once (for cold start), the choke is closed all the way. The choke arm is connected to the manifold. I guess it's a 2 metal spring that opens it when it's warm. I think the choke should be about 1/16 to 1/8 inch open, right? Thanks again !

Errrr....#40 on that link diagram is the emulsion tube and that needs to be fully seated, as in screwed down tight. Did you mean to say screw #44 ?? (idle mixture adjustment screw)

Here are some choke adjusting tips from the article section:

No, I meant # 40. I'm going by the diagram I got with the rebuild kit. It's obviously not correct. That's why I said what piece I was talking about. I was afraid the diagram was off. I have #44 at 1 3/4 turns out. That one I did count when I took the carb apart. Thanks for the info. I'll check the choke link tomorrow.

If you are talking about the idle air screws, adjust to max vacuum.
