I would appreciate anybody who can give me clues about what it can possibly be happening to my car that many times when I turn, or even sometimes when I brake it, the engine shut off and I have to restart it in the middle of the intersection. It has a recent remanufactured (cleaned) carburator and a new fuel filter.

Just let me add that mine is a duster with a slant 6, simple w/o modifications, as original. Thanks.

Sounds like your carburetor may be out of adjustment, I'd look at your mixture screws are set and start there. Doubt if timing would have any play into this, I'd also double check to see if you got any intake vacuum leaks causing a change in the A/F mixture.

If you bought a remanufactured Holley model 1920 it's probably junk. Actually, it's almost certainly junk.

Does the engine stall as you attempt to give it gas? (throttle opening)
Or will the engine stall if it is just sitting there idling, with no throttle movement?

Thanks to all of you. Yes, it shuts off when is idle. And yes it's a Holley 1920.

It actually does not take time idling for shutting off, but it shuts off at the time when I'm turning or as soon as I break and it stops still.

I mean I don't have to hit the gas pedal for the engine shut off, though that has also happened.

Does this car have power brakes? Could be a leak at the brake booster?

Will it idle at all when warm?
(The carb could have a plugged idle circuit)

I'm not trying to make a smart remark but why would the brakes have anything to do with the car shutting off? Are they wired to the ignition or carb? Just asking. -Dan :?:

If he had power brakes, the vacuum assist can lower the idle even more if it is already too low and kill the engine. Sometimes the check valve on the power booster will go bad and it's like unplugging your PCV line.

In other words a big time vacuum leak!
