I'm planning to hit the junkyards tomorrow to find a Carter BBD (and hopefully the rest of a super six setup). Can anybody tell me which cars to be looking for so I don't pop the hood on every mopar in the yard?

Also, if anybody knows a good (preferably inexpensive) source for NOS BBDs it would be much appreciated.

Lots of 318 cars had them as well, and a 318 BBD will work on a slant

Thanks everybody, I didn't end up finding anything in the way of a Super Six. However I did find a nice 67-74 style head Snatched it out of a early '70s Dart Custom. I'll keep looking.

Any tips on identifying pricy problems on a BBD while still on the vehicle?

Also tips on getting those two bottom center bolts on/off of the intake and exhaust manifolds? I couldn't figure out a good way to remove these so I ended up removing the head first and flipping it to be able to access the bolts.

You need a long extention, I have found a 1/4" drive 10" extention and a shallow socket works really well (a deep well socket hits the heat riser). I've have removed enough intake and exhaust combos I can get those two pesky nuts quickly by feel. The difficult part is getting them and the triangle washers back on for reasembly.

I just did this swap and had a great idea for getting the washers on under the intake/exhaust:
Get a magnetic pick-up tool, put the washer's hole on the end of the magnet and put it over the bolt, once it is on the bolt gently slide the magnet tool to the side of the washer exposing the bolt and push it on.
Worked like a charm.

Another second for a 2-bbl from a 318. I'm running one on my 170 and it has been working fine for a few years. As others will say, it was a very good upgrade - it was much quicker for me right away.

Regarding the 318 BBDs, I've heard they are slightly different than the BBDs on slants. Is this true and do they look different or function differently?

/6 BBD's had a 1 1/16 bore, 318's had a 1 3/16 bore. 78 and up 318's (with lean burn?) used the small bore carb. I used an early 70's BBD with a wood spacer on my aluminum "super six" intake, with a larger exhaust. 'twas fun.
