All the spark plugs are already out and the piston stop is in #1. Also removed all the pushrods from cylinders 2-6.

It's still a PITA to turn over and seems to get "stuck" for no reason.

That crank sprocket is super tight. I'm afraid it's going to break as I'm pulling it off. Any suggestions?

measure the crank snout to .0005 clearance...

then take the sprocket to a machine shop and have them hone it to that spec...

Well after trying for 3 hours this morning and shearing a grade 8 bolt in my puller, the crank gear hasn't budged. Looks like it's forever stuck at 2* advance. Any suggestions on degreeing this thing with it advanced already? I know I'm going to have to use offset bushings in the cam sprocket if I want any changes.

I don't have any other issues besides trying to get this cam degreed.

exactly... get the bolt out...

did you ever finish degreeing it to see where the cam is actually at?

you might be able to put heat to the sprocket... did you lube the snout?

The bolt is out, it's been out.

I tried the heat thing using a bottle torch and map gas. That's when it sheered off one of the arm bolts on the puller. I lubed the snout with engine assembly lube when I put it on. It will not budge ANY from it's installed position.

No I haven't gotten it degreed yet, still waiting on my dial indicator to arrive from summit. Also ordered 1 mechanical lifter to use for degreeing purposes. I did get my degree wheel and crankshaft socket this afternoon. Used the wheel and a piston stop to find absolute TDC. Got the engine sitting there until the dial indicator arrives.

That crankshaft socket was well worth the money. Beats the hell out of the bolt, nuts, washers technique.

Yes, I'd love to see a you-tube of timing chain replacement / degreeing cam on a slant six.

Once you solve your issues, you could repeat the process in probably a matter of minutes... would make for a great video to link from the "How To" section on this board.

Didn't use hardly any effort at all, I heated it up and slid it on.

ok first of all you shot yourself in the foot by heating it an installing it... it is locked on there unless you get it really hot... but by doing this it may ruin the sprocket... if it is seated all the way then i guess you can leave it

or

call jp for a bottom sprocket, cut the old one off... which is what i would do...

then do as i said above and have the sprocket honed to the correct ID..

also above you said it gets stuck... did you rebuild the engine? is the flex plate on it?
