The only replacements available to replace the 2 bbl carburetor is a Carter BBD which every Jeep owner will tell you sucks with a capital "S" and the Holly 32/36 which will fail miserably in smog testing states.

Just out of curiosity, why do Jeep owners dislike the BBD? and what applications used the BBD?

That is one good looking ride.

I have worked on jeeps most of my life and the Carter BBD was known as the worst carb ever installed on a straight six motor. The carb is computer assisted. The metering rod located in the base of the carb was used to adjust the idle mixture. Very poor idea. Never worked. Often froze in place. Was considered a high maintenance setup The Carter used a stepper motor to control those rods. If you want to use a Carter without the computer that is possible. Just move the needles into the "full rich" position before disabling them.

Thanks,
Fran

The biggest problem with the early BBD's like they used on 318's and Slants is they wear out the throttle shft bores in the base plate and leak vacuum. Then they won't maintain idle for crap.

I used one on my Duster and really liked it.

The problem wasn't the carb then it was that some egghead decided to try to operate it with a crappy primitive computer.
