I guess I took to long on the post above, logged me out while I was writing it. Anyway, me above.

The starter draws power direct from the battery - it's where the positive cable goes. It's the solenoid that goes through the ammeter. No fuse is there to protect the starter motor.

I had the same problem .(no power to the car)

turns out my wiring harness got wet and shorted most of my inside wires with not one blown fuse.

you might want to check to see if all your wires are not melted together

riged it to work

I still need a new wire harness

You sure your harness melted just by getting wet?

I remember a forklift I worked on once, someone had installed a rear worklamp with a metal housing on the headguard and wired it direct to the keyswitch with no fuse, anyway some idiot backed into something and crushed the lamp, shorting the positive lamp terminal to the frame, and it smoked the entire harness. We had to replace every electrical component on the truck. Not one switch, gauge, bulb survived. Well the headlamps did but everything else burned. But I digress.

Dang, after that horror story I think I'm going to go back and check to make sure all my add-ons are well fused
