Hello I have both carbs which one offers better performance or is there much difference? My 65 has the holley & so far it seems to run smooth (off idle stumble) my 62 has the bbs & runs good. Just wanted to hear from the masses. Thanks, I don't plan on rebuilding the motor for some time I just want to cruise!!!!!!!!!

I'm about to swap from the Holley to the BBS on a stock '72 /6... will advise.

My experience is that there has been more variation in individual carbs than between the two brands. A good 1920 will outperform an avg BBS and vice-versa. I can't say for sure, but I think the 1920s have given me better mileage as well.

A BBD (Supersix) would be a good upgrade in terms of performance, and shouldn't hurt mileage either.

The BBD "super six" swap has alwez worked well for me, and like Lou said, it won't hurt your mileage (in my case, it has always helped). I got this thing about keeping Kermit a bone stock 1 bbl, though...

This is very good timing...tomorrow I'm going to look at a rebuilt Carter 1bbl direct exchange. Being new to slant sixes I wasn't aware of these other choices...and by the way...what's a bbd and a super six? Sorry for taking you back to slant six 101, where I am. Thanks. Dave

Super Six= the slants equiped with a two barrel carb from '77 to '83 in cars and trucks.
BBD=Ball and Ball Dual throat carburetor. Ball and Ball is a name Carter used.
I still havn't done the upgrade either. With my little 1920 getting me over 20MPG on the freeway and around 15 in town, plus letting me run 70-75 all day if I need it to, I'm in no hurry. The extra power would be nice, but timing changes, distributer recurving and playing with the carb., exhaust, adding a clutch or electric fan frees up a good amount of power also. When your talking an engine that makes 100-110net HP, every bit, no matter how small, helps.
