I went by the garage the other day for a few minutes. I took some WD-40 and a Scotchbrite pad to the cylinders to knock off just a bit of surface rust. At least it was something.

Andrew and Chase are both foaming at the mouth for me to start driving my '72 Dart Swinger, so we will have to work that into the schedule soon. We need to drain the gas, give it a good overall service and finish mounting the Summit race seats and floor shifter. Should be some fun father/son/son time. :D

(I'd start yet another thread for this car, but it currently has a 318 in it.  ) The original Slant 6/904 are still sitting there in Tucson. They may wind up back in there at some point.

I spent a couple hours of quality time over at the garage last night. :D

I blew out the bolt holes and various passages and wiped the cylinders down with motor oil to prevent rust.

The rest of the time was spent with the '72 Dart draining the old gas, getting it up on stands for a good servicing and going through the boxes of schtuff.

I really need to find my camera or buy another one. These posts would be better with pics.

I've started a new thread for the Street Duster where the Slant 6 will "Power On":

http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43881

There is also a thread about the '72 Dart:

http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43876

So,... I guess this long thread that has run since 14 March 2003 and currently has 13,335 Views  has pretty much run its course.

8 years of fun and adventure!! :D

Thanks to everyone that have followed along and helped out with so much along the way! You all have my sincere gratitude.

The fun and adventure will continue with the two threads above along with the new and improved GodsRods Duster II:

http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39102

and Turismo 225:

http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13947

Best of luck to Frank and Cinda Brent as they work on putting a new heart in the original GodsRods Duster and have many more racing adventures with it. :D

Check out the "trying to get involved" thread below for the whole story about getting an old SL6 car ready to race...

My car is a '73 Duster with 225, 1 barrell, cracked exhaust manifold, stock exhaust pipe into cherry bomb ending before rear axle. Interior partially removed. 2.76:1 rear gears.

I pulled this thing out of a field, gave it a tune-up, oil change, tranny service, rebuilt the carb and adjusted tha valves.

At the Bristol Slant Six race it ran a 20.77, 20.85, then better than a 20.60. I lifted and broke out with a 20.60 on a 20.80 dial in. Not sure where that extra .20+ came from. That was bad too... I had cut a really good .027 light and had the other car covered. I should have hit the brakes a little harder. Maybe next time.

Enjoy the thread below on all the prep work I went through to get into the Slant Six racing fun.

I've been following the Slant 6 movement since about 1990 from out West. The military now has me closer to the action (Atlanta, GA) so I've got my sights set on attending Bristol, Clay City, Wilkesboro, and Brainard if things go according to plan. I'm going to look at a '74 Duster Sunday. It'll be slow and ugly (if I can even get it running), but I'm gonna try to make it out regardless. I've got 83 days to make it happen! If anyone in the Atlanta area wants to lend a hand I'd welcome it. Hope to see ya in Bristol on June 6th!

This one is a little older. Before I changed my screen name.
